Ursula Tscherter, a Swiss teacher, joined ORES for the first time in 1993 and returned each summer to Bergeronnes gaining more and more in-depth knowledge about the whales of the St.Lawrence. Since 1997 she is the director of ORES Europe (Foundation for Marine Environment Research in Switzerland) and has, together with Ned Lynas, co-directed the research and field courses in Bergeronnes. After Ned's death in fall 2002, Ursula became the director of the research station in Canada.
Project director Ursula Tscherter
Since 1998 she has developed a method to identify and classify almost 200 minke whales, several presentations at ECS conferences, and many on-going studies. As a person who loves to share her knowledge, Ursula has organised several slide show tours throughout Europe and is regularly giving talks at schools and workshops for teachers in Switzerland. She has developed and produced a teacher's kit on whales, the so-called Whale-Box, with many interactive games and teaching materials.
In memory of Ned, she is continuing ORES with the same passion, dedication and love for the whales she has shared with him during many wonderful years.
